Lyrics
Title: Tattoo Road
Verse 1
Chasin’ the horizon on a tattoo-covered road
Painted skin reveals the asphalt soul
Names and curses, love and rage
Spray-can sermons on a rural stage
Verse 2
The harvest dust falls soft beside you
Fading painted tales, old and new
No paving over stories too deep to erase
Their echoes ride this outlaw place
Chorus
This is Tattoo Road, where the wild hearts ride
Permanent tracks of memory line either side
Truth in the cracks, blood in the stone
History’s bleeding on Tattoo Road
Bridge
They all come back - young and old
Some to remember, some to be bold
To see the stories of painted scars
To hear them echo beneath the stars
Some drift through, chasing a rumored spark
All leave with dust and ink etched in their hearts
Chorus
This is Tattoo Road, where the wild hearts ride
Permanent tracks of memory line either side
Truth in the cracks, blood in the stone
History’s bleeding on Tattoo Road
Outro
So if you pass through, don’t just drive slow
Leave a piece behind, let your colors show
I carved her name where the blacktop bends
Swore I’d leave, but here I am again
Time fades the stories, painted tales grow cold
New ink is the heart and soul of Tattoo Road
Story behind the song
This song came from a real backroad in Tennessee I drove, where graffiti covered the blacktop, rocks, trees, and stumps along the way. What struck me was how human it felt — like people were leaving pieces of themselves behind in paint, names, symbols, and scars. Tattoo Road became a song about memory written onto a place, and the way the landscape can end up carrying the stories we cannot quite let go of.
The video stays simple on purpose. It is just the road as I drove it for a couple of miles, with the scenery exactly as it was. Nothing staged, nothing fancy. That simplicity reflects the feel of the drive itself — quiet, raw, and real — and lets the road speak for itself.
